I thought I had seen that one before… like 5-8 years ago! I looked it up… According to Wiki, GM stated in 2003 that it was confident to have a commercially available one ready by 2010. Hmmm…
I can’t believe all you people think that this is crap. Yes the Hindenburg was a bad idea but it was filled with Hydrogen, not a hydrogen fuel cell. Its the fact of the technology being put into use, period. It’s kinda like the horrible Iphone’s. They really suck, but it has just opened the door for better products and companies to build on it. I would never buy a first run product of ANY kind, you’re just asking for problems.
Where do you think hydrogen comes from? It takes electricity to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen - electrolysis. No, you don’t even plug it in, but is still depends on a power plant ultimately.
Glad they have come up with this technology. I hope they will accelerate the research to make this affordable and mass production worthy before my kids start driving.
Did you even listen to the video, it works on hydrogen, you don`t have to plug it in! Even if it was a plug in, you can just get a green energy power provider for your home power, so you`d feel less guilty and encourage clean energy resources. But your not smart enough to think of all that.
GM is merely hiding the “polution”. The electricity to charge these electric cars comes from power plants; predominantly COAL fired power plants. Industry in developed countries is choked-off under supposed ‘green initiatives’, and the factory is simply outsourced to a 3rd world country that will polute even MORE than the constricted 1st world country did.
Gm has the volt for 2011 so some new interpritation of what a vehicle should be is on it’s way. If u support foreign cars shame on u. How could y not support ur own countries products and tecnologies.toyota can kiss my ass when gm and ford turn the tables on them. Chrysler needs to die once and for all.
GM = Government Motors and this equals Fascism. Not being a fascist, and being a working taxpayer, all I see is my blood sweat and tears sacrificed and wasted. Yes, some yuppie can have a car fueled in his three car garage while twice as much coal as normal is burned in some other part of the country to create the inefficient fuel. It is total stupidity on every level.
The hydrogen comes from the electrolysis of seawater. This uses electricity. But of course you can ask, what source produces the electricity? Coal, natural gas, nuclear?
JCKZEE -You get hydrogen from salt water. No oil burning plants, no CO2, and no spent nuclear power rods buried deep in the earth for future generations to deal with.
Question is where do you get hydrogen from? Nothing is free, how much more oil burning plants have to be built to make hydrogen to run these cars in volume? I can see more co2 in the atmosphere to make hydrogen to run these green cars. No net gain. Maybe nuclear power will be the answer. Just my opinon.
well said….. well said…. GM products have been crap for years. interestingly enough, Ford didnt need a bail out, and is still posting profits. Ford knows how to run a company, while Chrysler and GM need help nearly every 10 years. This tells you it can be done with a profit. good post tartar
If this hydrogen fuel cell really worked it would be in production in a couple of years and price would drop drastically. If that doesn’t happen it’s because it doesn’t work or if it did work Exxon blocked it. GM is going belly up long before that happens and fare thee well. We should have given money to small start up companies that really are the future, not old hags like GM.
So GM is about to go bankrupt and they spent how much to build this thing that will probably never go into production? As long as there is oil available on this planet we will not see a practical alternative to our fossil-fueled autos here in the US. High mileage fuel systems using gasoline and distilled water have been around for decades, but you don’t see much on the market because the oil companies buy or kill these people off. Stanley Meyer, may you rest in peace my friend.
lilmoomoo2…….the reason this car is so expensive now is because it’s currently one of a kind . Once this car is marketed and the resources required to maintain such a vehicle are abundant , the price will become affordable . You are too young to remember when Tandy came out with an incredibly new product called “the calculator” . It only did adding and subtracting……it was quite large by todays comparison….and it cost $100.00 . Now they are far more advanced and cost under $5.00 .

I see all sorts of shit that will break, then you will have to get the car back to the dealership before it explodes.

Pardon my spelling, but does anyone remember the Hindenberg. The idea is cool, but it appears to be a high explosive Pinto.

This is not a production car @dalenbraden. It is not even a concept car. It’s not even a prototype. It’s a demonstration of technology.

this car is nothing more than a piece of shit! overpriced and underpowered. it will never sell.

Looking at James May (short hair that is ntot gray) thisclip has got to be about 10 years old - so shouldn’t we be driving this car today??

Sounds great - $5M now but sure to be below $50K soon. It may even be my next car after I run my current one into the ground in about 8 more years.
