    Holy crap! SOMEONE ELSE who realizes that torque is the most important thing! I have been arguing w/Honda fans forever, trying to prove to them that a car with 197hp/124ft-lbs is a gutless machine! This Audi has more torque than most production trucks available!

    when designing a prototype.. almost every part is manufactured from scratch… which is incredibly expensive… it costs hundreds of millions of dollars to put a car into production not to mention building a prototype

    The difference is not only the engine… It’s the gearbox and engine cooling as well… They’ve put an A4’s TDI gearbox just to drive it, but not to max it out… There are still no gearboxes in production that could transfer such massive power and torque… And the engine cooling of course… The bigger the engine, the harder it is to cool it… + the 2 turbos, that’s a real challenge in engineering…

    Why? The only difference between the R8 TDI and the R8 production model that I know of is the engine. And that sure as hell doesn’t explain the insane amount of money Audi spent on the car.
